Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb, left, celebrates with offensive tackle Jamaal Jackson after DeSean Jackson caught a 64-yd pass for a touchdown in the second quarter. Kolb had a big game, completing 24 of 34 passes for 329 yards. He completed passes to 7 different receivers and threw 2 TD's, scored another on a QB sneak and had no INT's. And his QB rating was a pretty impressive 120.6.

Philadelphia Eagles'
Stats Of The Week

Eagles QB Kevin Kolb threw for 329 yards making him the first NFL quarterback in history to throw for 300+ yards in his first two NFL starts. DeSean Jackson's 64-yd TD catch made him the first Eagle with a TD reception of 60 or more yards in consecutive games since Mike Quick had an 82-yarder against the 49ers in San Francisco on Nov. 3, 1985, and a 99-yarder in OT against the Falcons at the vet on Nov. 10, 1985. Jackson is also the first NFL player with a TD of 60 or more yards in 3 straight games since Dante Hall of the Chiefs in 2003. Brent Celek (8 catches for 104 yds) and DeSean Jackson (6-149) both surpassed 100 receiving yards for a 2nd straight game, the first time the same two Eagles have been over 100 yards in back-to-back games since Nov. 8, 1953 against the Giants and 7 days later against the Colts, when Pete Pihos (8-156, 7-145) and Bobby Walston (8-176, 7-110). Celek is also the Eagles first tight end with consecutive games since Pete Retzlaff in 1965 (7-151 at Browns on Nov. 7 and 7-204 vs Redskins on Nov. 14).

Kevin Kolb Throws For Second Straight
300-Yd Game In Eagles 34-14 Victory.

From start to finish, these young Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs. Only in the rushing game, did the Chiefs match the Eagles. Otherwise, the Eagles took it to the men in red. Total net yards, 420-196 Eagles – Net passing yards, 327-97 Eagles – First downs, 21-11 Eagles. And lastly, here is another stat for your liking, third down efficiency; the Eagles converted on 6 of 13 chances (46%) compared to the Chiefs at 0-for-10. That is a big fat zero times that QB Matt Cassel converted on third down. Even though his QB rating was very good at 124.5, the Eagles defense dominated him, allowing the QB to throw for just 90 total passing yards (14-18 passes) and they also sacked him three times. Whereas Kevin Kolb threw for 329 passing yards, completing 24-of-34 passes with 2 TD’s, no INT’s and no sacks. He also completed 8 passes for 104 yards to tight end Brent Celek and 6 passes for 149 yards to DeSean Jackson. Kolb became the first QB in NFL history with 2 300+ passing yard games in his first 2 starts. With the emergence of Jackson and Celek as weapons, this makes the Eagles a very dangerous team. And just wait till Kevin Curtis, Brian Westbrook and Donovan McNabb all get healthy again. And don’t forget about Michael Vick.

The Eagles came out hard and fast, putting up 24 first half points. On their second possession, the Birds started with great field position at the Chiefs 48-yard line. Rookie LeSean McCoy was involved quite a bit along with a nice run by Michael Vick. McCoy punched it in from the wildcat formation from the 5-yard line and scored his first NFL touchdown. The next series featured that Jackson guy, that very fast receiver from Cal. First there was a 10-yd pass from Kolb for a first down. Then a deep pass for another 40 yards down to the KC 20-yard line. After an 11-yd run from McCoy an 11-yd pass to Celek, it was time for Kolb’s first TD run on a QB sneak. The Eagles led 14-0 after the first quarter, while outgaining Kansas City 128-0 in total yards. Early in the second quarter, Matt Cassel would drive the Chiefs on a nice 56-yard TD drive. Cassel completed a nice pass to Mark Bradley for a 13-yard TD. The Chiefs would find no more success until the fourth quarter.

After KC cut the lead to 14-7, lightning struck right back as Kolb completed a short 10-yd pass over the middle to Jackson. Some poor tackling and the speed of Jackson led to a 64-yd TD on the play. And even with a sore groin, Jackson did a diving somersault that ended with a split after scoring the TD in the end zone. He is so electrifying. Jackson had 100 yards halfway through the second quarter with 2 catches for 40+ yards alone. And just think, this kid is just in his second season. He is probably more exciting than Westbrook now and is still developing. Only stardom waits the kid. The Eagles offense was not quite done yet either. Kolb would lead the troops on another 64-yard 14-play scoring drive that ended with an easy 29-yd Akers’ FG with just 31 seconds left in the half. The third quarter started the same with another 50-yd scoring drive, this one too ended with another FG, this one from 38 yards out. The Eagles were up 27-7 and dominating the lowly Kansas City Chiefs.

Another impressive stat in this game was the Eagles rush defense. The very talented Larry Johnson was held to just 38 rushing yards on 19 carries. That is a paltry 2.0 yds/carry average. With Westbrook out for the game, rookie sensation LeSean McCoy was given the start and he was pretty impressive with 20 carries for 84 yards (4.2 avg.) And the rookie did not fumble. A very good sign as Westbrook is signed through next season. The Eagles now get the bye and since Andy Reid took over, the Eagles have a 10-0 record after the bye-week. There is no reason to think they will not go 11-0, as the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers will play the Eagles next. They lost 24-0 yesterday to the Giants and that was a Tampa home game. Tampa plays at Washington next week. The Eagles look for real, but their next possible test is not for a while, possibly even November 1st against the Giants. After the Bucs, they travel to Oakland and then to Washington (Mon). But if they are to be contenders for the NFC, they should be 5-1 before that first game against New York.
