One Field Goal Is All The Eagles
Could Muster In This Ugly 6-3 Loss.
It was a struggle for both offenses as the defense was the name of the game.
Green Bay's kicker went 2 for 3 in field goals was the difference in this
very ugly game played by the Packers and Eagles. The 6-3 victory gave the Packers
their first win of the season, while the Eagles fell to 1-2. The Eagles made
defensive mistake after mistake as the eagles were penalized time after time
for 115 yards on 12 penalties. Almost every penalty was taken on defense. Coach
Reid acknowleged during the post game conference that the penalties played a big
part in the Eagles loss. The Eagles only points came near the end of the first half
on David Akers 43 yard field go. At the same time, Packers' kicker Ryan Longwell
converted 2 out of 3 field goals for the Packers' only points in the game.
The Packers hadn't won with so few points since a 6-3 win over the Rams in 1965.
On the other hand, the Eagles hadn't held a team to six ponts and lost since
the Steelers beat them 6-3 in 1968.
The Eagles defensive assault on Brett Frave was led by Hugh Douglas who had
2 1/2 sacks. The team finished with 5 while the Packers sacked Donovan McNabb
five times also. The biggest stat which should have given the Eagles victory
at Lambeau Field was the turnovers. The Eagles defense forced one fumble and caused
Brett Farve to throw 3 interceptions. But none of these turnovers led to any Eagles
points. Donovan McNabb finished the day 15 for 31 for 118 yards, 1 INT and no TDs.
While Brett Farve was 18-33 with 3 INTs and no TDs. It looks more and more like
the Eagles wide receivers are not helping at all. If not for Duce Staley, the Eagles
offense would be perhaps the worse in the NFL. The offensive line is much improved,
but the receiving corp is not cutting it. The Eagles secondary played much more
aggressive and their play showed as they picked off three passes from Farve. Also,
Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor played much better and they combined for 4 tackles
on the game. Jeremiah Trotter led all Eagles with 7 tackles. We will see what
happens next week...
