McNabb, Mitchell Help Lead The Way
To A 21-7 Victory Against The Saints.

Donovan McNabb threw for a career high 222 yards and 2 TD passes. He finsihed the day 20 of 32 and NO interceptions. He also completed this task against the NFL's top-rated pass defense. The Birds defense again created havoc on the opponent's offense as they forced 4 turnovers and sacked Jeff Blake 5 times. In the 2 last games, the Eagles have had 10 sacks and had 8 takeaways. The Eagles led everybody in the NFL last year with most takeaways. Hugh Douglass led the Eagles defense with 1 1/2 sacks and caused two holding penalties all against all-world Saints tackle William Roaf. Eagles defensive tackle Hollis Thomas, who just signed the big contract extension just this week also had a monster game. Thomas had 4 tackles, 1 sack and caused Ricky Williams to fumble twice. The Eagles passing defense held the Saints to only 168 passing yards, while the Birds sacked Jeff Blake five times and intercepted him twice. By the way, Eagles Hugh Douglass leads everybody in the NFL with 7 sacks.

The Saints started off quickly as Jeff Blake ran for a 10 yard touchdown run. A mistake by the Eagles on special teams gave the Saints great field position on the 20 yard line. The Saints led 7-0. After two series of 3 and outs, Donovan McNabb orchestrated an 88 yard drive for a touchdown. Chad Lewis converted a 16 yard pass into the Eagles first touchdown in 2 games. Next play, Hollis Thomas hit Ricky Williams, who fumbled and Troy Vincent came up with ball on the Saints 21 yard line. First play, McNabb hit Charles Johnson on a great play fake and the Eagles took the lead for good. Brian Mitchell 3rd quarter 72 yard punt return for a touchdown run extended the Birds lead to 21-7. The Eagles improved to 2-2 on the year and won more than one road game in one year for the first time since 1996. They had been 1-21-1 in the last 24 games away from Veteran's Stadium over the past 3 seasons. Here is one more stat for you: Duce Staley finished last year with 41% of the Eagles total yards, most in the NFL. This year going into the game, Duce had 54% of all the Eagles offensive yardage. Again, most in the NFL.
