I finally got my computer back in working order. I am sorry to all the football
fans who come every week to read my insight on the game and what it means. I had
to reload Windows on my computer and you know what that means, time down...
Well anyway, here we go. It was a very exciting game even though there was not much
offense as both defenses played really hard and forced both offenses in situations
they were not very comfortable at. Tennessee is very lucky to have win this game
at the end the way they did. If not for Al Del Greco's 50 yard game winning FG,
the Titans would still be on their losing streak and tied with the Ravens for first
place. But give the kicker who basically lost 2 games; 1 to Baltimore when he missed
a last minute extra point and last second FG to win it when they lost 24-23. Secondly,
the Titans lost to Jacksonville when Al Del Greco missed a last second FG from 30 yards
and the Jaguars ended their frustrating losing streak and won 17-14. This game, Del Greco
came through with no time on the clock and hit a clutch 50 yard FG. A 50 yard FG in the
cold windy home of Veteran's Stadium. It's ashamed that he actually won the game and
another great late game comeback by Donovan McNabb, alias John Elway II.
The Eagles were down 12-6 with under 6 minutes left thanks to the 4th of 5 FG's kicked
by Del Greco. The kickoff following the FG, Brian Mitchell ran it back over the 35 yard
line, but there was an illegal block to the back on one of the Titans so McNabb and company
had to start back at their own 23 yard line instead. On a third and ten play, McNabb
found Todd Pinkston open downfield and McNabb completed a 45 yard pass to the rookie.
Donovan continued to hit receivers as he led the team down the field for a first and goal at the 2
yard line. On the next play, McNabb ran a QB boot play and ran it in for the game's only
touchdown and an Eagle 13-12 lead with 3:11 left in the game. Donovan had pretty good numbers
on the day completing 19 of 31 passes for 239 yards, no INT. He also rushed for 37 yards
on 6 carries and of course, ONE BIG TOUCHDOWN.
I am not going to defend Andy Reid for that one play on third down, because it was a gutsy
call. I hear a lot of talk about how Troy Vincent made two blunders on the game winning drive.
I don't blame anyone for the loss, except maybe inexperince. the Eagles should have never been
in the position late in the game anyway. The Titans could of been up 24-6 instead of only
12-6. Tennessee has their own problems where they cannot score touchdowns either, similar
to the problems that wrecked the Ravens there for a while, until they replaced their QB.
But give the Eagles defense some credit, because they played well when it mattered. The Eagles
defense played a solid game and held Eddie George to only 98 yards rushing with much
of that total coming early in the game. Philadelphia could have been easily 10-4 and still
in first, but we are a very young team that most experts predicted would only be 8-8 at best.
But here we are, two games left at 9-5 with no reason to think otherwise that we will finish
up at 11-5. If that is the case, then we will also be the number #1 wild card team and host either;
Detroit, St. Louis or Tampa Bay in the first game, unless New York loses 2 of their last 3 games.
That could happen as they play Pittsburgh and Jacksonville, both teams are playing great ball
and both games coming in Giants Stadium, where they lost badly to both Detroit and St. Louis.
Let's watch this week play out and we will see a better senerio. I will also write a paper
next week, even though it is an off week. I will be able to focus my writings on hopefully,
playoff previews.
