Philadelphia Eagles' Stat Of The Week

Since the new NFL playoff format with 2 extra teams, the NFC team with the home-field has never lost a the game coming off the bye-week. The Atlanta and the Eagles met only once in the playoffs back in 1978 at Fulton County Stadium. The Falcons won the game 14-13, when Eagles punter Mike Michel missed a short 30-yard FG with just seconds left on the clock.
Eagles Gear Up For The Falcons,
& Michael Vick Next Week In Philly.

Wow. What a weekend. On Saturday, both teams won in blowouts. First it was a New York Jets team that simply destroyed the Indianapolis. The Colts should of just waved the white flag after the first quarter. Peyton Manning was totally ineffective, while Chad Pennington was simply brilliant. The Jets rolled over the Colts 41-0. In the other game, Michael Vick led the the Atlanta Falcons to victory in Lambeau Field. What? Yes, the Falcons did something that no other team ever could do. Win in Wisconsin in January. Vick was not all that impressive. He only threw 117 yards on a 13-for-25 day. Warrick Dunn only rushed rushed for 64 yards on 15 carries. So how did they do it. Special teams and turnovers. Brett Farve was 20-of-42 for 247 yards, 1 TD late in the third quarter along with 2 big INT's. The Packers also fumbled the ball away three times and the Falcons blocked a punt for another touchdown. In other words, the Packers stunk worse than Atlanta played great. Yes, Atlanta won and looked good, especially on defense. But the offense did not set the world on fire. They took advantage of some very costly mistakes and took such a big lead, that Green Bay was never really in this one. Atlanta better play even better to hope they have a chance to beat the Philadelphia Eagles. Green Bay should of lost their last 4 straight games as Brett Farve and the rest of the Packers seemed to have fallen completely apart. Last week, against the Jets should of shown everyone that Green Bay was in big trouble. The Falcons won 27-7 and get a free ticket to Veteran's Stadium where the fans and the the Eagles will treat the men in white a lot more friendlier. NOT!

Now on to Sunday. In the early game, the Browns took a 24-7 lead in the second half and it seemed that Pittsburgh was all but out of the game. But wait one second, Tommy Maddox, QB for the men in black led a furious late fourth quarter charge. The Steelers took their first lead of the game when Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala ran a short 3-yard run into the endzone. Randle El completed the scoring with the 2-point conversion pass to Jermane Tuman. The Browns were not done as Kelly Holcomb led Cleveland back, but with only 9 seconds left, Holcomb completed a 16-yard pass to Andre King to the Steeler 29-yard line. But time ran out 1 second earlier as he dove out-of-bounds. Steelers win 36-33. It turned out later to be the NFL's 6th best come-from-behind win in playoff history. In the late afternoon game, it appeared that the New York Giants had a date with the Tampa Bay Bucaneers next Sunday. San Francisco QB Jeff Garcia led the Niners back from 38-14 with 2 TD passes to Terrell Owens and 1 TD to Tai Streets with 1 minute left to give the San Francisco 49ers the lead for the first time since the early first quarter. The Giants, who would of probally won the game if their kicker Matt Bryant made that 42-yarder with 3 minutes left, but he shanked it badly to the left. Well, the Giants still had a chance to win it with 6 seconds left as Bryant setup for the potential game-winning FG at 41 yards. A terrible snap caused the holder/punter Matt Allen to run with ball a force a long lob to an illegal receiver downfield. There were two penalties on the play. One for pass interference on the man who was illegally downfield and the other for an inelgible man downfield penalty to Rich Seubert who tried to become an illegal receiver. End of game. Niners won 39-38 in the NFL's second biggest comeback in playoff history. Only Buffalo's 32-point comeback in a 41-38 victory over Houston in January 1993 was bigger. Frank Reich, Jim Kelly's backup brought the Bills back from 38-3 to win that one. What do I think. Put your hand around your neck and squeeze.

The New York Giants choked. Jeremy Shockey can shove his foot up his #%@. What's that I hear from the Giant's locker room. Nothing. Nothing but crying and whining because they choked. The Eagles had a 38-14 lead against these same 49ers on Monday Night about 6 weeks ago and they did not choke. Instead, the Birds took the life out of the Niners with a suffocating defense. CHOKERS. HAHAHAHAHAHAH. Chokers. I love it and I am sorry that I have to write this, but after my visit in the Atlanta last week and to think there were some Giant fans down there that actually thought they were going to Super Bowl after they beat the Eagles in the playoffs. This is for you. UUghhhhh. Choke. Cough. Cough. The New York "LOUD-MOUTH CHOKING" Giants, lost to the Falcons without Michael Vick. They lost to the stinkin' Houston Texans. And they also lost to the Titans when they had a 2 TD lead with only 5 minutes left. The Giants and their fans got what they deserve, an early ticket home. Try playimg golf next week as the Atlanta Falcons come to Philadelphia on Saturday night. It could be tough. But if the Eagles don't make any mistakes and play sound defense, they should win when Donovan McNabb comes back. Michael Vick maybe the best athlete and also the "Ultimate Weapon II", but McNabb is one of the NFL's smartest QB's and his experience over the past two seasons should help the Eagles win and then host the NFC Championship Game the following week against either the Bucs or Niners. The Eagles manhandled both of them during the regular season and in the cold, windly, loud and dangerous place we now call "The Dump", should propel the Birds to Super Bowl XXXVII against either the New York Jets or Tennessee Titans. I believe the Titans will handle the Steelers and the Jets will shock the Raiders.

Veteran's Stadium, the worst place in the NFL to play, but the fans of Philly also know, that our Eagles are not scared to play there. We may be weary. But not scared. The fans who are the loudest, the most drunkest, the most vicious, but also the most passionate in the NFL will do theier part in making life rough for opposing QB's and help the Eagles defense into a bigger frenzy than the regular season. You saw the results the last two years as Donovan help the Birds get the lead, while the defense caused the Tampa Bay Bucs to quit in the second half of both games. We could have similar results twice over this year. And remember, no NFC team team playing during the wildcard week has ever beaten the team with home-field advantage during the NFL Semifinals. Ever!! That would make it two miracles in two weeks for the Falcons. The Eagles are very well aware of the situation. The Eagles are the best team on paper and on the field this year in the NFC. The Eagles are hungry as ever as they remember last year the loss in St. Louis with that loud indoor crowd and obnoxous loud speaker system run by the Trans World Dome people. In Philadelphia, there is no loud music, no loud speaker system system telling the fans when to be loud. The Vet is a dangerous place to place if you are the opposition and the crowd gets the defense on a feeding frenzy which will end hopefully next week with a victory over the Niners or the Bucs. The only music played at the Vet is the Eagles' Fight Song; "Fly Eagles, Fly" which is played after every TD or FG. The Eagles fought through adversity when McNabb went down. Andy Reid coached the Birds to a 5-1 record without Donovan at the helms. They said it couldn't be done and the Birds proved everyone wrong. Now it is "OUR YEAR" and "OUR TIME" to shine. Just remember these three stats. The Eagles under Andy Reid the past 3 seasons are 34-14, the NFL's best. They are also 13-1 after a loss. Finally, the Eagles are the best primetime team the past three seasons with a 9-0 record when the lights are on at night. The best teams in the NFC seem to always win in the end, not on Wild Card Weekend. So, if all holds true, Philadelphia will be the team represented by the NFC in this years' Super Bowl...
