Donovan McNabb silenced his critics at least for this week with
a good crisp game. He finished the day passing for 172 yards on
a 18-29 completion rate. Though, he threw no INT's, he also did
not throw a touchdown. McNabb added another 47 yards with his legs
on 9 runs. On the first drive alone, he had a season high 25 yard run
and completed 3 of 3 passes. Mcnabb also converted on 9 of 16 third
downs with a number of them third-and-long.

Philadelphia Eagles' Stat Of The Week
Brian Westbrook's 62-yard rush for a touchdown was the Eagles' longest
from the line of scrimmage since Brian Mitchell's 85-yarder against the
Falcons in 2000. Correll Buckhalter's first-quarter touchdown was his first
since Nov. 11, 2001 against the Vikings. The last time, 2 different running
backs had touchdowns in the game was back in 2000 against the Arizona Cardinals
with Duce Staley and Darnell Autry completing the chore. David Akers broke the
Eagles all-time record for most field goals. Paul McFadden had 91.

Eagles Prevail On The Road After
A Rough Start The Last 2 Weeks.
What a difference two weeks can make in a football season for a team with
Super Bowl aspirations. Two long weeks for a quarterback to get his head
back into it mentally. Two long weeks to heal old wounds that otherwise
may wash away the whole season down the toilet. It was perhaps a wake-up
call on their flight from Philly to Buffalo that help bring back the team
to reality. On the flight, the plane experienced some very heavy turbulence
and suddenly dropped approximately 1200 feet in a matter of seconds at one
point. The drop in altitude must have shaken the Eagles back to reality and
snapped them out of their season-long nap. The way they came out firing on
all cylinders was very telling early on. Right out of the gates, Donovan
McNabb drove the team straight down the field. Eight plays and 71 yards
later, Correll Buckhalter took the ball into the end zone for his first
touchdown in over 1 year for an early 7-0 lead. You knew right there and
then, that this was a totally different Eagles' team out on the field.
Even after McNabb was sacked on the fourth play of the drive, the Eagles
converted a big third down play and they continued that trend all game
long. You just knew that these were the real Philadelphia Eagles that we
in Philly are used to watching. You just knew.
Donovan McNabb passed for 172 total passing yards and completed 18 of 29
passes. That is a 62% completion rate, much better than 2 weeks ago when
he only completed 39% of his passes. He also added 47 rushing yards.
Though he did not throw a touchdown pass, he also stayed away from being
intercepted and fumbling the ball away for the first time this year. It
was a well-deserved 23-13 victory for the entire team. Even after the
Birds took an early lead, the Eagles defense took control of Drew Bledsoe
and forced the Bills to go 3-and-out. Donovan again took the team on another
scoring drive of 16 plays, 65 yards, which ate up 8:36 minutes on the clock.
This drive ended on a David Akers 26-yard FG and a 10-0 Eagles lead. This
paved the way for an Eagles victory on the road in Buffalo. On defense, the
Eagles held Buffalo to a measly 21 yards rushing, while Philadelphia as a
team rushed for 177 yards on the ground. The running attack was led by second
year player Brian Westbrook who, rushed for 96 yards on 11 carries. It was
also Westbrook's last carry, which clinched victory for the Birds late in
the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, drew Bledsoe started to get a bit hot. He finished
the day completing 27 of 43 passes and 296 yards, while throwing only 1 TD
and no INT's. With the score at 16-0 and the Eagles in pretty much complete
command, he drove the Bills on an 11-play 67-yard touchdown drive that
culminated on a 3-yard pass to Bobby Shaw. The 2-point conversion failed
and the Eagles lead was now cut to 16-6 with more than 9 minutes left in
the game. The Eagles started the game scoring on 4 of their first 6
possessions. They also had outgained the Bills by a 237-120 yard mark to
that point. They also held Bledsoe to 125 yards passing through three
quarters. After the Bills first TD, the Eagles stayed cold, going 3-and-out
giving the ball back the Buffalo offense. Bledsoe went back to work and
drove the Bills 69 yards down the field and cut the Eagles lead to 16-13
with 2:49 left in the game. After the Eagles got the ball back, Donovan
and the offense appeared to stall again as they ended up with a third-and-long
play once again. This time, McNabb completed a huge pass over the middle to
James Thrash for a very big first down. Two plays later, Brian Westbrook
broke through the Bills defense and ran it all the way to the end zone for
a 62-yard touchdown and his first ever touchdown as a pro. The Philadelphia
Eagles now had a 23-13 lead and they finished off the Bills for their first
victory of the year. For now, everything appears to have been righted. At
least the ship has stopped sinking for the moment.
