David Akers watches his field goal attempt of 46 yards as he breaks the
NFL all-time record for most 40+ yard field goals in one season. It was
his 17th this season. He finished the season making 17 of 21 FG's from
over 40 yards, including 2 of 3 from over 50 yards. On all field goals,
he finished the year making 84.4% of all field goals (27 of 32) and was
voted to the Pro Bowl for his third appearance. For his career, he has now
made 83.2% of all his field goals, second best in NFL history.

Philadelphia Eagles' Stat Of The Week
The loss was the Eagles' second-worst at home (not counting the 1987 strike games)
since a 1975 loss of 31-0 to these Bengals. This is also the first time that the
Eagles lost their last 2 games of the season by 13 or more points since 1963, when
they lost the Cards 38-14 in St. Louis and the Vikings 34-13 at Franklin Field. McNabb
finished with a QB passer rating of 104.7, 15th best in NFL history. Chad Johnson is the first
player to score 3 TD's against the Eagles since Edgerrin James in the Colts 44-17 win
at the Vet in 1999.

Five Turnovers Dooms Terrible Birds
In 38-10 Loss On Season's Finale.
Yes indeed, what was that crap we were forced to watch. It was a JV game starring the Eagle
backups against a not-so-good Cincinnati Bengals. Even for backups, this really stunk. The
lowly Bengals came in here and won the lousy game, 38-10. They had nothing to look forward
to next week other than where is their family going to on vacation. Both Koy Detmer and Jeff
Blake completely stunk up the Linc. Both threw interceptions and received a round of boos. I
felt sorry for the fans that had to sit there at Lincoln Financial Field and watched this-this
whatever you want to call it game. How about all those suckers who paid $200, $300 or even more
per ticket on eBay. Too bad! I’m sure glad I went to the Dallas game with my son instead of these
last two games. I am also relieved that I didn’t travel to St. Louis or had tickets to “Fan Appreciation”
day as the Eagles tried to pass the last game off as. Everyone in attendance should have been given a
partial refund of some kind!
I actually started to think that the Eagles would come back in the second half when Detmer led the
team downfield trailing 17-3. On first-and-goal from the 8-yard line, Detmer attempted the fade pass
in the corner of the end zone to Greg Lewis. He didn’t get enough air on the ball and Deltha O’Neal
intercepted it. After Cincinnati went three-and-out, Blake replaced Detmer to a chorus of cheers. It
did not last long as he was booed on the first play when he tried to throw a pass over the middle.
The ball was caught by defensive end Robert Geathers, who ran it in from 36 yards for a 24-3 lead.
And to top it off on the ensuing kickoff, Dexter Wynn slipped and the ball slipped from his hands
and the fumble was converted into another touchdown to make it 31-3. Freddie Mitchell would later
add the only Eagles touchdown of the day after he caught a nice 3-yard pass from Blake to finish the
games scoring at 38-10. Mitchell had a career day with 6 receptions for 76 yards and his second TD of
the season.
Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Buffalo Bills with a bunch of nobody’s. They even played
a QB named Brian St. Pierre. They beat a desperate team, who needed to win just to make the playoffs.
Cincinnati had nothing to play for and we still lost ugly. Just look at the QB stats: Detmer completed
17 of 31 passes for 202 yards, but had 3 turnovers (2 INT’s and 1 fumble) and no touchdowns. Blake
completed 14 of 23 passes for only 83 yards with 1 TD and a very costly INT. Twenty-four points
directly attributed to those 5 turnovers that Eagles gave away. Even for 2 backup quarterbacks,
that is astounding. The Eagles may have to rethink the backup position in the off-season. But for
now, that is what we have to deal with, especially if McNabb should get hurt in the playoffs. We
hopefully won’t have to test those waters. OK, let’s get ready for the only games that matter on
both January 16th and the 23rd. Win those two games and nobody will remember these last two weeks.
