2005 NFL Regular Season Game #11 Monday November 28, 2005 FREE

Packers quarterback Brett Favre walks off the field after the game with the Philadelphia Eagles. He still has never won a game in Philadelphia and this could of been his last attempt as retirement lies on the horizon. His game stats: 15 of 33 passes for 171 yards with a TD and 2 INT's.

Philadelphia Eagles'
Stat Of The Week

The Philadelphia Eagles have now won four straight games against the Green Bay Packers, their longest winning streak against them ever dating back to 1933. The Packers also have not won a game in Philadelphia since 1962. Brett Farve is also now 0-6 in games played in Pennsylvania. The Packers fell to 2-9 and clinched their first losing season since 1991, when Farve was a Falcon. They're the first team in NFL history to open the season 2-9 despite outscoring their opponents (232-223). Westbrook's 27-yard TD run was his longest TD run in 25 games, since he ran for a 42-yarder against the Panthers last October. Packers RB Samkon Gado rushed for 111 rushing yards a week after the Giants Tiki Barber rushed for 112 yards against the Eagles. This is the first time since late 2003 the Eagles allowed 100-yard rushers in consecutive weeks (Ricky Williams, Kevan Barlow).

Akers Four Field Goals Helps Propel,
The Eagles To Victory Over The Pack.

All right, the Philadelphia Eagles finally won a game. It was their first in 5 tries. They had lost 4 straight to Denver, Washington, Dallas and the NY Giants, all in that order. In fact their last victory took a last minute miracle blocked FG to steal the game from the Chargers. OK, this win was to the lowly Green Bay Packers, who fell to 2-9 and still have nor won a game in Philly since 1962. The Packers still have Brett Favre, but like most games against the Birds, he throws more passes to the opposition than for touchdowns. That just won’t win many games, unless the running game produces TD’s to off-balance the mistakes of the QB. Well the Eagles managed a measly 128 yards and a 1 TD. OK, but Brian Westbrook also rushed for 117 yards and added a TD. So what was the difference? Kicker David Akers went 4-for-4 on FG’s. And the Eagles defense held Green Bay off the scoreboard in the second half, while limiting the offense to just 109 total yards in the second half.

The Eagles jumped out to a 10-0 lead. On the first 3 possessions the Eagles started all 3 inside the Packers 40-yard line. But on the first two, the Eagles only managed 3 points on Akers first FG of 44 yards. Then the Packers ReShard Lee fumbled the kickoff, which was recovered by Matt Ware on the Packers 32-yard line. After a 5-yard penalty for a false start, Westbrook broke through right tackle for a 33-yard TD run. It started to look like another easy win over the Packers football team. Green Bay still has Brett Favre, who finally completed a long pass to Donald Driver for a 23-yard gain out to the Packers 49-yard line. Then two runs of 18 and 33 yards by Samkon Gado cut the Birds lead to 10-7. Gado finished the game with over 100 yards rushing. He carried 26 times for 111 yards. The score stayed at 10-7 for the next 20 minutes.

Late in the first half, Favre led the offense on a 6-play 44-yard drive, which culminated with a 13-yd pass reception to David Martin for a TD. Brett Favre showed again why he would be voted into the Hall of Fame running the 2-minute offense to perfection. Green Bay held a 14-10 lead at the half. In the second half, the Eagles defense came alive and David Akers added 3 FG’s of 38, 37 and 33 yards, respectively. The first FG came early in the third quarter to cut the Packers lead to 14-13. The Eagles finally retook the lead for good as QB Mike McMahon drove the Eagles 60 yards on 12 plays, mostly on nice runs by Westbrook and a bunch of short passes to 3 different receivers. The drive stalled and Akers third FG of the game gave the Eagles a 16-14 lead. Then Green Bay teams gave the ball back on the ensuing kickoff, when rookie Ryan Moats stripped the ball from Andrae Thurman. After 4 straight runs by Westbrook, the Packers Nick Collins sacked McMahon and Akers added the last points of the game on his fourth FG. But it would take two INT’s by Roderick Hood in the end zone to seal the victory for the Eagles. The win also improves the Eagles record to 5-6 given them a sliver of hope to still make the playoffs. But they must basically win out just for a chance. An almost impossible task considering all the injuries and/or vanquished players.
